key use for dummies
my friends at wikipedia tell me that a key is "a device which is used to open a lock. a typical key consists of two parts: the blade, which slides into the keyway of the lock and distinguishes between different keys, and the bow, which is left protruding so that torque can be applied by the user." the article goes on to discuss different types of key in detail.
*however* - from what i can tell, at no point does the article tell you that in order to gain entry to your house, you need to remember to take your keys with you, rather than leaving them on top of your washing machine. it is sloppy amateur journalism like this that results in not-too-bright thirty-somethings being left stranded outside their houses in the pouring rain, waiting for their significant others to come and rescue them.
d'oh!
