Giles McGarry (formerly kantryla)
The Wedge (LPOTY Commended)
This isn't the image I'd planned on putting next, however on Friday I got an email from Take A View saying that this image (and the one below) have been commended in this years Landscape Photo of the Year competition. This image was chosen by the Sunday Times as part of their selection. You cannot believe how thrilled I was to see it along with some other fantastic entries.
Both my images will be in this years LPOTY book, this image will be projected at the exhibition at the National Theatre with the shot below being displayed in printed format - apparently will be printed at over a meter squared - will be interested to see that as I've never seen any of my work that large.
I'm rambling but I'm giddy with excitement as I'm sure you can imagine.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the others that I know got commendations or more Michael Diblicek - who won editors choice, Doug Chinnery, Andy Brown and Jeff Vyse
As for the shot - I've never posted this on Flickr before - it has been on 500px though. It had been languishing in my archives since I took it on a shoot with Noel Clegg. It was landscape format and I just never connected with it, then one day I was messing around on my iPhone and I just happened to playing with Photoshop Express - seeing what it could do in the crop tool - and bang there it was square. I really hadn't seen it like that - I think I'd probably tried it and dismissed it. So when I got home I reprocessed it from scratch and this is the result.
Technical Details
Nikon D300
Sigma 10-20 @12mm
F22
ISO 200
60 seconds
ND110
