South Armagh Sunset

A midwinter sunset at the churchyard in Creggan Church of Ireland, County Armagh, in the Ring of Gullion area in the south of the county.

The historic graveyard is the burial place of three eighteenth century Gaelic Irish poets: Art MacCooey, Pádraig MacAliondain and Séamus Mór MacMurphy (poet and outlaw).

This area was the last Irish-speaking area in the northeastern quadrant of Ireland, with the switch to English only occurring in the 19th Century and native speakers of the Armagh dialect surviving into the 1930s.
