Naantali Church Interior
Originally built to serve a C15 Brigentine convent, this is the parish church of Naantali. The church was badly damaged by fire in 1628. Most of the vaults date back to C19, although they follow the medieval construction style. Between 1963 and 1965, a large-scale restoration of the church was carried out, in connection with which the interior of the church was largely restored to its monastic form. Naantali had been very wealthy in medieval times, but when the convent closed at the Reformation, the town went into a tailspin until for over 200 years mid-C18. Nowadays, with the mildest climate in Finland, a marina, and an easy commute to Turku, it is one of Finland's richest towns. Oh, and it has Moomin World too.
