The End is Near - Cozad, NE
Amanda and I roadtripped back to Illinois/Wisconsin for the holidays, so I'll be adding pictures from that trip as I have time.
I'll start with a bit of a melancholic shot. The Nutrien Ag elevator in Cozad, NE is being torn down as the owners decided it had become a liability. This shot was taken early on the morning of December 23rd, 2018. Most of the elevator was gone as the moon set into the soft colors of the western sky. I imagine that by now most of the remaining core that is still standing here has probably succumbed to the demolition crew as well.
This is the second time I've roadtripped home through Nebraska and come across an elevator meeting its end. I also was witness to the early stages of demolition of the old wood elevator in Gothenburg several years back. If I ever come across the Willow Island elevator being torn down, I may break down and weep. It's one of my favorite elevators on the UP in Nebraska and I've used it for several memorable pictures already.
