Doing the Halloween numbers
Here at the ghb school of economics, we've put on our analyst's hat, taken a quick look at the data from last night vs. recent history, and believe we see a trend. Or, at least (maybe) a correlation -- as shown above.
It appears that, as the recession has continued to grind everybody down, we see the number of kids running around in scary costumes and demanding candy has been rising. Not necessarily in sync with the hard times, though. This year's Halloween traffic was an all-time high (at our house anyway), despite signs of gradual economic recovery in recent months. So, a bit of a surprise, and these data may call for rewriting a textbook or two. Maybe I'll come out with my own.
