Snow Hill from Constitution Hill Birmingham
This is a view up Snow Hill. On the right is the bulk of Snow Hill station, the left is a mass of thriving small shops, all of which were swept away in re-development. In the distance, on the horizon, are the flags that flew from Edward Greys' department store.
The photographer was clearly not a bus person as the front of MOF 176 a BCT standard Daimler CVG6/Crossley has been cut, the Daimler is on the 69 route Colmore Row to Lozells via Wheeler St. As ever the other vehicles date the shot parked near the crossing a 2 tone Morris Oxford, Remoco are running a BMC crew bus several Austin A30 variations and small fords abound. On the Street furniture front we have a Police calling post, the light on the top would flash when a call was waiting. The island on the crossing is protected by 4 huge cast bollards and 2 early enamelled keep left bollards.
A picture of a community that was working well with good shops, shortly to be swept away to make room for more offices and, eventually the new Snow Hill Station.
Undated Circa 1959
