D5091 at Moorgate (pjs,0898)

Standing in a bay at Moorgate is D5091, in this original livery and with the route discs folded it is easy to see why yellow warning panels were needed.

Although busy it was clearly not rush hour when Peter took this picture. This is the whole of the negative, the bottom is clipped in favour of the skyline, I assume Peter could not get back any further with his twin-lens reflex camera. The station looks tired and dated, the corrugated roof to the left looks in need of attention.

This negative was filed in an envelope marked 'Misc LT' and came to light when I was having a sort through for something else.

D5091 entered traffic from Crewe Works 25/06/1960, under TOPS it became 24091. The loco was withdrawn 20/11/1977 and scrapped 01/06/1978 at Doncaster Works. We do not have a date for this picture but the loco was a Cricklewood East (14A) machine from new until 05/09/1964 and a Willesden (1A) allocated machine until 18/04/1966. If a more accurate date can be added I will change the "Circa 1962"
