Red-throated Loon - Pennsylvania
Basic plumage bird, Allegheny River at downtown Pittsburgh, Allegheny County. Found in the afternoon by Glenn Koppel (who also made some wonderful photos of it - much better than this). I didn't find out about the bird until after sunset when I ran into Glenn along the north shore of the Ohio. After hustling over to the Allegheny River behind PNC Park, the bird was quickly refound and very cooperative, sometimes approaching to within 20 feet. This photo was made in very dark conditions and poor light. Interestingly, there were two Red-throated Loons on the exact same section of the Allegheny on 12 February 2014, present for only a day.
