first fall female Kentucky Warbler
I was at one of my favorite spots for fall migration and heard this bird chipping from cover. I was able to coax it out on this limb and get a few shots. I've never seen a first fall Kentucky warbler in this early plumage which I find fascinating. There is no black in the cap at all but rather much brown and olive tones. The black on the face is minimal and low contrast with the adjacent olive areas but the yellow eye-line wrapping around the back of the eye and below it is classic for Kentucky warbler. This is definitely one of my top plumage finds so far this fall rivaled only by a recent absolutely stunning female Br3wster's warbler.
