This image was taken in 2021 to test an idea I had for a series of prints.
A while before making it a comic book & collectibles shop opened around the corner from my house and I became fairly pally with two of the three owners. The third wasn't really liked by anyone—with the exception of himself—and he was especially disliked by his co-owners, who only found out what he was like after going into business with him, and they were sort of stuck with him at that point.
One of the times I went in to browse and chat—a multiple time a week occurrence—my two pals brought up the idea of having some prints of my work—specifically my toy still life stuff—in the shop to sell. I went away, had a play, and came up with an idea that I thought could work as a standalone print, or as part of a set, if people wanted to buy a number of different prints.
Sadly whilst I was planning it out, and my pals were trying to source some figures for it, life things happened for us all. I had to prioritise none photography stuff for a while, and my pals sadly ended up having to close the shop.
I never ended up coming back to the project after that. But having somewhat recently come across the image again while trying to share more on social media, I'm wondering about creating a small trial batch of images to properly test out the idea.
Originally the concept was only going to use Star Wars Black Series figures, specifically troopers and armour wearing characters such as Boba Fett and The Mandalorian, but now I'm thinking of expanding it. I think it might work for most Black Series figures, and I think it might well work for other lines such as Marvel Legends and Transformers.
