Keck Laser
The Keck telescopes are each 10 meters (33 feet) across, so that laser has to be at least half a meter wide. It also is putting out 40 watts of power. Think of this next time you see someone using a 5 milliwatt laser pointer.
I found a (forgotten) ultra-rare Zeiss 85mm f/1.2 50th Anniversary Edition at my work. It was Contax-Yashica mount, so I tracked down an adapter on Amazon and tested out the lens. It was quite sharp, but for night photography, I think you can do better for ~$5000. It had a decent bit of field curvature/spherical aberrations. This photo was taken at f/1.4.
