Subaru, Milky Way, and Shooting Star
I set up my camera to shoot timelapse near here, and retrieved it at 3:45 AM. As I was walking back to our vehicle, I noticed a strange, bright light in the sky. At first I thought it was a comet, but it was changing shape and moving. I told the telescope operator to get out of the car and look, and we stared at it for several seconds before he suggested that I take photos. As quickly as I could, I re-set up my camera and snapped a few photos of the morphing, glowing cloud in the sky. I may post some later... Our best guess is that it was an ICBM launch, and the gasses were sufficiently high enough to catch the sunlight.
After the glow dissipated, I noticed how brightly the Milky Way was shining above Subaru. We walked back to it, and I took several images. Miraculously, a meteor streaked through this image.
This is just a preliminary edit (nearly straight off the camera, with just white balance and contrast tweaks in ACR) and likely will change. I'm currently waiting for breakfast after staying up all night, so my eyes probably aren't trustworthy right now...
Tech info: Canon 5D Mk. II, Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 at f/2.0, ISO 6400, 20 seconds.
