Yosemite Falls Moonbow

I intentionally got a late start hiking up the Yosemite Falls trail. Because it was Memorial Day weekend, the line of cars at the Yosemite entrance station was two hours long. I made it to the hiking permit station just before they closed and picked up my permit. I started the hike but took a long break at Columbia Rock to photograph sunset. After the final colors faded, I began hiking by headlamp. Even with a raincoat, the wind-blown waterfall spray soaked me. But I arrived here, a favorite lookout spot, a few minutes before my model had predicted a moonbow. I watched excitedly as the moonbow appeared exactly on schedule, and I spent the next hour and 10 minutes photographing it.

 

I arrived at my campsite above the valley rim after midnight. I lost my lens cap while clamoring over rocks in the dark...
