Inside the Subaru Telescope
I recently was granted access to film timelapse inside the Subaru dome while they propagated their adaptive optics laser. I originally was scheduled to film tonight (Saturday), but the forecast was bad, so at the last minute I moved it one day earlier. Unfortunately, it meant that I would have to pull a 26-hour day (do grad student work all day, film all night). However, that seems to have been a wise decision, since it's raining atop Mauna Kea tonight.
Keck II was also propagating their laser, and I got lucky enough to capture both lasers in a single image. This is a still frame from one of my two night timelapse sequences.
Many thanks to Saeko Hayashi and NAOJ/Subaru for organizing this and granting me access! Taken with a Nikon 14-24 at 14mm f/2.8 adapted onto a Canon 6D.
