The aircraft was practicing single-engined approaches and they were tricky to fly at low level on one engine. The aircraft in this instance lost height and belly-landed, causing damage to the wing spar and other areas so it was written off.

The aircraft was Bought On Charge with 14 Squadron in late 1959.

NZ6101 was initially a B(I)8 converted to a B(I)12 with an autopilot and extra navigation equipment.

Crashed near Christchurch Airport 1 November 1960 after power loss on final approach.

Crew unhurt, but aircraft written off.

The wreckage was removed to Wigram and broken up with some parts later going to Woodbourne.
