Red-necked Grebes (Podiceps grisegena) nest
I had not held out much hope for this nest. When the nest starts to tilt the grebes do what seems logical to grebes...they pile more stuff on the low side to build it up. This works in a marsh when the water level is rising a bit but not when your nest is on a mooring tire in a marina - then it is counterproductive and the nest usually slides off. Here we have three chicks and one egg. The other chick is on the nest and not visible.

June 9 update: The nest flipped over and is abandoned. The family has relocated to Lake Ontario off Bronte Beach. All three chicks were observed this morning.
