'Emergency Landing' - Nova Scotia
My 'Panogasms Print Collection' is now on sale but only for 7 days at gavinhardcastle.com
A word of advice for any fledgling drone pilots out there.
If you're flying over water and your remote gives you a warning that you should return the drone due to low battery power, take heed.
It's not so bad if you're flying over accessible land because you can always find your drone after an emergency landing. But when you're flying over water, those emergency landings are to be avoided.
This was a heart-pounding flight as I refused to listen to the 'RTH' warning so that I could get this one last shot.
As soon as I'd captured this panorama, I started flying the drone back home but the drone had other ideas. What you don't want to hear is that annoyingly placid voice coming out of the remote declaring 'Emergency Landing' when you're 80ft above the ocean.
With many expletives, grunts and I'll admit it, a little bit of frothing at the mouth, I managed to fight the 'Emergency Landing' and limp the drone back home with the bare minimum of battery life.
Drone photography can be rather stressful. The more financially invested you are in the drone, the bigger the shakes. It's probably a good thing I don't have one of those massive drones that carry a full-sized camera and lens. I'm not sure my heart could handle those 'Emergency Landings'.
Thanks for reading.
