Moraine Moonset

Moraine Lake has got to be the most over photographed scene in the Canadian Rockies, but it’s still a spectacular sight to behold.

 

I studied it for days trying to think of a new way to capture it’s beauty so I set out to photograph the Milky Way as it rose over the lake. At first I was mortified to see that the half moon was lining up dead centre with the Milky Way as I knew the light would completely drown out the stars.

 

After a couple of test shots I was overjoyed to see the moon star caused by the half moon as it began to settle over the valley of the ten peaks, so I set the camera on self timer and clambered over the icy rocks in the dark to shoot this Moraine Lake selfie.
