Bulk it up...

My 100ft reel of Ilford surveillance film arrived today. Loaded it into the bulk loader and managed to squeeze 19 rolls of 36 exp out of it.

This film is not available for the civilian market and was only purchased by police forces and the military. This roll came from a US air base in the UK. It's meant to have an emulsion formula similar to HP5 of the 1970s (without the '+'). It's also meant to have a wider tonal range and exposure latitude- to better pick out suspects in the shadows! However it is meant to be more grainy than normal HP5+.

I managed to get around 30 empty cassettes from the local Snappy Snaps earlier in the week. I don't understand why anyone would pay £1 for cassette online. The girl in the shop did look at me like I was mad though...

It's also interesting to see what films people tend to send into a lab these days. The vast majority were disposable cassettes- white, with generic name and no DX. Second most common were Kodak Gold, then Fuji Superia, usually the cheaper 100s. But there were some surprises too in the form of a roll of Ferrania Solaris and some Agfa Vista. One roll with a blue body said simply 'Italian Film Inside', but a small slit that wasn't covered by the blue sticker had the distinctive green and white or a roll of Superia hehe.
