October on the Buffalo
by garybaird
Because of the severe drought we have had in Arkansas the Buffalo River was to low for a decent canoe trip. Thanks to the bank busting rainstorm we had the last weekend of September the River level was up. In that rainstorm the River raised to 8 1/2 feet at the St. Joe USGS gauge.
I consider when the gauge at St. Joe is that 5.5 the River is perfect for canoeing. On this weekend it was at 4 1/4 and going down. It was a sweet ride. The storm the weekend before, cleaned out the old Summer River and replaced it with a clean Fall River.
