The Stars Aligned - Thinking of You Bruce
Sometimes events happen in one's life that are difficult to express or figure out. This is one of those times...
I'd like to take a moment to dedicate this image to a good friend and teacher - Bruce Livingston. Bruce was one of the first people to befriend me on Flickr and I've had the good fortune to share so much of my photographic journey with him over the years.
I learned macro photography (and focus stacking) through his stunning floral images and one of his favorite lens was the VOIGTLANDER, 125mm f/2.5 SL, MACRO APO-LANTHAR. A stunning 1:1 macro lens and one I've coveted. Over the years, Bruce amassed a fortune in photographic equipment but tragically, his life ended in a automobile accident a couple of years ago. His wife Linda decided it was time to move on and called me to see if I might be interested in any of Bruce's gear and how best to go about selling it. I told her I would try and help and there was one lens I was particularly interested in if she happened to come across it. I stopped by yesterday and there it was! The Holy Grail (IMO) of macro lenses in my hands, and not just any copy but Bruce's copy. Needless to say, I now have the honor to carry forward and keep Bruce's memory alive in my work with that lens. I know Bruce is looking down on me and I know he had a hand in making this happen. I do believe the stars aligned and he's smiling on this fine day, thank you Bruce, you will never be forgotten!!
