Like Mother, Like Cub EXPLORED

Sorry flickr friends that I haven't been too active lately, I've been very busy volunteering counting hawks at the Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch (www.rockfishgaphawkwatch.org)!

With rain today I am not at the hawk watch so have had time to catch up on a few things, so here I am on flickr! :)

I thought I'd share this photo I took of a mama Bear and her singleton cub in Shenandoah National Park a few weeks ago. They decided to pose for me before heading into the brush, after feasting on acorns in a White Oak tree for several hours.

As a side note .. PLEASE PLEASE drive the speed limit (35mph unless otherwise posted in SNP) or slower .. especially when in wildlife habitat. A Bear Cub was hit and killed a couple weeks ago and I believe it to be one of two cubs that my favorite bear (Gertrude: www.flickr.com/photos/gabrielmapel/17084531989/) was doing a great job raising this year. It breaks my heart when Bears and other wildlife die needlessly, because of speeders.
