Both Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways are big customers of the Dreamliner (ANA 74x, JAL 49x; Oct 2020). In return, Boeing gave Japanese companies big contracts to build parts of the 787. Airlines are also able to choose the engine. Either a Rolls-Royce or a General Electric. ANA, intially, choose Rolls-Royce and in return Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and IHI got big contracts from RR to build parts of the engine. JAL has GE engines (partly build by IHI) and ANA latest 787 orders were also with GE engines.
