Description: Johannes (24.06.1864-14.07.1945) and Ellen Marie (01.06.1877-27.02.1941) Partapuoli and their three children Johan (b. 1900), Karen (b. 1903) and Marit (b. 1905), as well as the family dog, photographed at Grotli Hotel. The Sami Partapuoli-family came to Tafjord with a small herd of reindeer in 1891, and settled in Skjåk soon after. Johannes later worked as head shepherd and co-owner in Skjåk domesticated reindeer herding district. In order to add to their income the family set up camp at Grotli Hotel in the tourist season. They posed for photographs and sold handmade Sami knives, skaller (Sami footwear) and tobacco pouches. In 1907 even King Chulalongkorn of Thailand visisted the Partapouli-family in their tent when he was on holiday in Norway.
