Born In The Wrong Era

After seeing and being around all these old trains, I am firmly convinced that I should have been born during the era of steam trains. I am totally fascinated by them.

This roundhouse is a particularly difficult place to shoot due to the dark areas around the trains, the massive amount of natural light coming through the thousands of windows, and all the different angles and curves. No matter how hard you try, the huge curved building always appears to be falling off to the back left.

I have never been to a place where the staff was so friendly and accommodating to photographers. The tour guides will even go out of their way to make sure that their group does not enter a shot you are lining up. If you go to the NC Transportation Museum , be sure to get there when they open to have the place all to yourself for about an hour.

North Carolina Transportation Museum - Exit 79 I-85 North - East Spencer, North Carolina. Follow Brown Signs. Some walking to get around large train yard, but it is perfectly flat, and there are plenty of benches and restrooms.
