Rainy Day Sunset
Just before the sun retires for the night. Roan Mountains, Tennessee
Just on the North Carolina Border.
A photographer's envy is a given these days. Everyone wants the biggest, best and most expensive equipment even if they can't afford it. Of course, being immune to this phenomenon it never bothers me. I always find it funny. however, that when you set up a tripod and camera anywhere, in this case an overlook on the road to Carver's Gap, you will draw a crowd to see what you are shooting. We were the first to this location, but within minutes people started stopping. Within 30 minutes, as we waited for sunset, over 20 cars had stopped. By sunset we had 5 car loads of photographers and a lot of expensive gear all around us. The last arrival was a huge black caddie SUV. Five people jumped out just as sun was going to sleep. Two couples, three were carrying Canon 5DM4's and one was carrying a Nikon D7200. The last guy in the car came up next to us carrying a Hasselblad H5D-200c Multi-Shot Medium Format DSLR ( $ 45,000.00 ) , with a Hasselblad HCD 24mm f/4.8 Lens ( $ 7,250.00 ), and a tripod that probably cost more than my entire rig. Then I remembered the old adage - "The camera does not make the photographer".
