Wayah Why Such A Bad Photo
This is the Wayah Bald Overlook. Why did I put such a bad picture on Flicker? Because I wanted to set the record straight on this Wayah Bald thing. There seems to be a lot of misinformation concerning this attraction and it has been hyped somewhat, so here goes. It is indeed about a 15 mile ride up the winding and twisting Wayah Road, west of Franklin NC, and then an additional seven miles or so of very rough one lane roller coaster dirt forest road to get there. If you are scared of heights or don’t like your teeth rattled, stay away. We did however, see a bear on the way down. THERE IS NO WESTERN VIEW! If you’re going there to photograph the sunset, go to the casino instead. Trees block all western facing views, even from the top of the fire tower. If you’re coming to photograph the sunrise, you stand a good chance of a decent photograph, but you have to ply the previously mentioned fine roads in the pitch dark to get there on time. Good luck with the real world.
