Your Worst Nightmare? The Golden Silk Orb Weaver or Banana Spider is the largest non-tarantula spider in North America. Females have a 5-6 inch leg span and the males are a little smaller. Their silk is currently being researched for other uses and has strength greater than Kevlar. Quite a frightening sight the first time you see one. They are non-poisonous but their bite reportedly can be quite painful. Confined mainly to tropical swamps in the United States.
