Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula)

Virginia Lake, Reno, Washoe Co, Nevada (January 1st, 2013). 29. Large urban lake.

 

Adult female, one of several goldeneyes in the small patches of open water in the mostly iced-up lake.

 

Common Goldeneyes are regular winter visitors at the lake, with roosting aggregations in the late afternoon sometimes reaching 100 or more.
