Male Red-headed Barbet (Eubucco bourcierii)
April 26, 2021, at El Ensueño, Quindío, Colombia.
The Red-headed Barbet (Eubucco bourcierii) is a relatively common bird in Colombia. We have seen them at other locations, but since our arrival here on April 6, 2021, it is one of five species that we have not previously seen at El Ensueño. April is a transition month. North American migrants have disappeared; it’s been several days since we’ve seen North American birds. It could be that there are also local migrations within Colombia that might explain why other South American species, previously not observed by us, have appeared here during the last few weeks.
