Shinning Sunbeam (Aglaeactis cupripennis)

This is a male Shinning Sunbeam (Aglaeactis cupripennis). The Shinning Sunbeam hummingbird is easily identified by relatively large size and cinnamon color. The male as shown here has a brilliant rainbow colored rump. The markings of the female are similar except that the rump would be much duller in color. This is a species of hummingbird found at the higher elevations in the Andes Mountains of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. This image was taken at 3500 M.S.N.M. or about 11,500 feet above sea level.
