Male Swallow Tanager (Tersina viridis)
The Swallow Tanager (Tersina viridis) is about 15 cm (6 inches) in length. Its range extends from Panama southward to Argentina at altitudes to about 1400 meters (4600 feet). They have somewhat swallow-like wings and a flattened bill that are adapted to taking insects in flight. Like other tanagers they also feed on fruit.
The female of this species is similarly patterned however the blue is replaced with light green and she would not have a distinct facial mask.
