Gene's Body Shop

This shot was taken or North Elm, circa 1996. We originally thought it was from south Bell Avenue, but I think the angle proves otherwise. The Texas Woman's University Clock Tower in the background dates from 1977-1978. It at one time had a working clock in the top. Its debut was unfortunate. No one in the neighborhood was used to having a large clock to "bing-bong-bong-bing" in the middle of the night. As a friend of mine put it (and he lived practically in the shadow of the Clock Tower), "Alec, all night long--bing-bong-bong-bing, and then the #%^%#@&*(&%%*)! thing just went crazy!" I think that after that unhappy night and morning it was understood that the University would reprogram the clock, or somebody was going to do it for them. As for me, I slept through the whole business. UPDATE: The clock has long since been replaced with a light up sign that says "TWU" on each face..
