Ice in the almond orchard

When temperatures drop below freezing, local almond growers run sprinklers in their orchards overnight to help offset damage to the setting crop or young trees. The water and air circulation help raise the orchard temperature. The insulation of ice also warms the buds and surprisingly helps protect them.
