Heliamphora chimantensis, Marsh Pitcher Plant in habitat, tepui "J", Canaima National Park, Bolivar, Venezuela

note Clusia spp white flowers in foreground.

This species is typically observed as an open grassy marsh inhabitant in full sun. The plants depicted here were observed on a forested slope with some plants in complete shade. Despite the lower light environment, all plants observed exhibited typical growth habits and coloration.

The plants of this forested area apparently set seed quite well as empty seed capsules and recruitment was observed throughout the area. This environment was quite delicate and mature plants could be easily displaced with foot traffic alone.

No other populations of this species were observed within 2-3 kilometers of this site in any direction, though numerous hybrids with H pulchella were observed in the surrounding region.
