The Power of Kiwanda

Hi everyone. Sorry I have been a bad Flickr contact for the past couple of days. I just have been in a processing rut lately and wanting to get out and shoot some pictures. Well it all came to a head Wednesday morning at 1:00am! I could not sleep after seeing all of the fantastic photos from the Rowena Crest wildflowers in the Columbia River Gorge!

So, I got in my car at 1:30am and started the over 4 hour drive to the Gorge so I could get my sunrise shot! I got detained for about 5 minutes when a State Trooper pulled me over for speeding at 2:30am! I told him I was sorry that I had my cruise control set at 72 mph! The speed limit was 60. He asked why I was in such a hurry.

I told him, "I am sorry officer. I could not sleep tonight and I am a photographer. I am trying to make it to the Columbia River Gorge before sunrise" He told me to wait a moment while he ran my license. He returned a few moments later and told me he was only going to give me a warning. Whew! I have not had a ticket since 2005! He let me go and told me to keep it under 70! So I set the cruise for 69! Thank you officer for understanding the need to get to a photo shoot!

Obviously this is not a shot of the Rowena Crest sunrise! This is from Thursday night when I decided to head to Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City. I really need to devote at least six hours at this fantastic location the next time I get back to the coast! It is a spectacular place to visit!

I also met some new Flickr friends while at the Cape. Carol www.flickr.com/photos/camelsandhounds/ and her husband Andy, as well as Nick www.flickr.com/photos/cougars/ and his wife Karla were down on this lower level of the cape where we were treated to some absolutely spectacular wave action! Take a look at the fantastic photo streams of these very nice and generous photographers! The sunset was less than epic, but I did not care at this point. I just wanted to follow each wave as it formed, grew and then exploded against the lower cliffs! The setting sun provided enough warm light to really highlight the waves.

This is a SOOC image which I ran through Photoshop CS5 to remove a couple of dust spots. I then ran through Lightroom to bring in a tad bit more contrast and to sharpen a bit.

It is late and now I have another photography adventure to go on tomorrow! Heading over to the magic that is the Palouse region of southeastern Washington tomorrow. Will be back Sunday evening, and will work to catch back up on your streams.

Thank you for the views, comments and faves. I appreciate them and I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Please do not use my images on blogs or websites without my permission. Thank you.
