I can't believe it has been over two months since my last post! I have been extremely busy with work, fall color and several business opportunities! First, work has been crazy with the seasonal change and our awesome Summer that we had! That awesome Summer has translated into a beautiful fall around here in the Pacific Northwest.
No major windstorms to blow the leaves off the trees. Autumn started with a big punch of rain for the lowlands and a huge dump of snow in the mountains. So all of the great fall color in the mountains was buried by a thick blanket of snow which has started to melt. Then of course our government could not agree on anything, hence the shutdown of our government, which caused the closure of our National Parks like Mount Rainier! Fortunately it is back open. Maybe a trip up there to see the snow and lingering fall color!
Second, I made at least three, count them, three different trips to Leavenworth, Washington, and the North Cascades searching out fall color. This shot is a result of my third trip! Aspen trees are not too common on the west side of the Cascade Mountains due to the high amount of rain we receive. They are a little more plentiful, if you look for them, on the eastern side of the mountains. I know nothing compares to the huge Aspen Groves found in Utah and Colorado, maybe next year! What is cool about our Aspen trees is where they are found, the relatively low growing (only getting to about 15-20 feet high at maturity) Vine Maple puts on a vibrant color show making it look like the forest floor is on fire!
This is a single RAW exposure shot at a high 800 ISO, due to the fact the sun already went down and I shot handheld. I also shot with my aperture wide open and a slightly softer focus. I was not so concerned about getting as much detail here as going for more of an abstract feel. I softened a bit more in Topaz Adjust to create a little more of a painted look. I hope you like the results. I practiced some vertical panning too. That should be my next post, at least not two months down the road!!!
Oh, Third has been some great exposure for my photography. Well, at least one image. I have images used for websites and one published in a magazine, but never for a front cover. Well South Sound Magazine, a local Puget Sound publisher, contacted me to use one of my favorite photos for their front cover of the magazine and one for the featured Autumn article. Here is the photo for the cover:www.flickr.com/photos/fresnatic/5077310590/in/set-7215762... and the one they used for the story: www.flickr.com/photos/fresnatic/8069160170/in/set-7215762... Here is a link to their website: southsoundmag.com/issue/october-november-2013/
Very exciting to see my work printed on the front cover!
Thank you for your support, views, comments and faves. I appreciate them. I also appreciate all of the contact requests. I am sorry that I cannot always respond as it is so hard to look at all of my current contacts work. Please do not feel offended if I have not yet visited your stream. I hope to stop by and see all of the inspirational work you all post on Flickr.
I own all of the original RAW and final processed images. Please do not use them on blogs or websites without my permission. All images are available for license through Getty Images or through direct contact via Flickr email. Thank you.
