Ardh Kumbh mela pilgrims #4. Allahabad, India
This is part of a series i made about Hindu pilgrims during the Ardh Kumbh mela in Allahabad, Januray 2007.
January 19th 2007 was one of the most auspicious days for a holy dip at the Sangam (confluence of the holy Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers), according to astrologers. On that special day only, 20 million Hindu pilgrims turned up from all directions, as estimated. Temporary pontoon bridges, streets and avenues were built for the occasion, when the Sangam became a sea of tents for over a month, known as Kumbh city.
