The deserted port
Quayside buildings in Bristol, seen on Saturday 25th October 1975. The arch on the left brought you out on Bathurst Wharf. On the right was the Turner Edwards & Co. Ltd Bond no. 1, built for J. Robinson & Son, seed crushers. The gable-ended structure at the far end had been its boiler house. Beyond the distant railings was the lock giving access to the Bathurst Basin. The light-coloured, partially seen building is the Ostrich Inn.
I haven't been down here for years, but all this, with the exception of the Ostrich, which continues to flourish, was demolished for housing and offices. According to the A-Z this is now something called ...excuse me for laughing... Merchant's Quay.
