Modern.

I am grateful to Flickrite katie priest www.flickr.com/photos/34159704@N00/ for drawing my attention to this house in Clifton, Bristol. Mid-afternoon in December is not the most propitious time for photographing anything, let alone buildings like this, which somehow cry out for sunlight and blue skies. The owner seems unconsciously to acknowledge this by planting trees and shrubs which hint at the stony hills behind Antibes or St Tropez.

Not much to my taste ...a mere arrangement of rectangles which anyone could design. This is the kind of thing that inclines me to the belief that much modern architecture is a kind of "emperor's new clothes" con-trick.
