Buchanan's Wharf, Bristol, 1975.

This building was originally the granary (left) and mill (right) of Messrs Procter & Baker. It was built in 1883. Conveyers, clad with corrugated iron, connected the upper floors of the two halves. Rusty corrugated iron excrescences ...presumably the housings for hoists... jut over the water from upper floors.

Beyond is the wharf used by the Holms Sand and Gravel Co. and the crane used for unloading its once familiar "sand boats". The gap between this building and its neighbour to the right had been vacant for over 30 years, since the warehouse that occupied the site had been destroyed in wartime bombing. An arcade of arches and the edges of its walls have been left.
