Rare and unidentified

Anybody know exactly what this is? Bus Lists On The Web www.buslistsontheweb.co.uk/ avers that it is an Albion VT21L. VT? What would that be? David Kaye's Buses and Trolleybuses Since 1945 (Batsford, 1968), a useful but fallible source, lists among Albion models the Venturer and the Victor. The Venturer was a double-deck chassis, long out of production at the time this vehicle was new. This seemed to leave the Victor, but that model's chassis designation began with the letters FT and it was for 35-seat bodywork. This vehicle has a Duple (Northern) 41-seat coach body.

I no longer have the original print of the photograph, but the link above gives the original owner as Gee Cross, Stalybridge. I don't remember taking the photograph or recognise the location, but it comes from a strip of negatives taken at Manchester and Stalybridge on Thursday 12th October 1978. Rover 3-litre coupé behind ...one of my all-time faves.
