The bright dark

Double-stranded.

Due to the current pandemic we are living in a time of strong contrasts. In so many cases you recognize a great need to be touched, to kiss, to share and feel comfort, but we have to do with love at a distance. One can feel the sadness, the pain, when it becomes clear how quickly people pass away if all goes wrong. Especially after an elongated life of being together. COVID-19 can strike incredibly fast, catching people at the same time, physically not being capable to care for each other or even to say goodbye, like the married couple we took care of last week .

We did our best for years, to save the lives of vulnerable elderly people and now they suddenly slip away. The doors of nursing homes and hospices have to stay closed for beloved ones. How does it feel when you're not allowed to appear at a friend's funeral, because you cough a little ?

The sun is shining and the sky is bright , but the ashes in crematoriums circulate at full speed.

As a GP I have been lead up with a sense of ruth and loving approach, but regularly I don't know how to get this to the other side, to the patients who need consolation, being obliged to keep distance and armed in aprons, masks and splash goggles ...
