It is not a coincidence that Hungary is one of the world's best chess nations ...
The picture is taken in Széchenyi Gyógyfürdő in the Varosliget park. The Thermal Bath is one of the largest spa complexes in Europe, and is the first thermal bath on the Pest side of the city.
The Széchenyi Thermal Bath was built in 1913, and expanded in 1927 with a public bathing department for gentlemen and ladies and a beach site. In the middle of the 1960s, further transformations took place, including the creation of a group thermal section in bathing suits as well as a daytime outpatient hospital.
Frank Paul Silye says:
Hotel Gellért (originally Saint Gellért Hotel and Spa) is a famous, first class, built on the right bank of the river Danube between 1916 and 1918 in the (Secession) Art Nouveau style with some biomorphic elements, at the foot of Gellért Hill, next to Szabadság Bridge.
References to healing waters in this location are found from as early as the 13th century. A hospital was located on this site during the Middle Ages. During the reign of the Ottoman Empire, baths were also built on this particular site.
