3 of 100. The Massey Ferguson Goose

One of the realities of the 100 Strangers Project is that you generally only get to have a fleeting conversation with your subject. They may, for all you know, be having you on in what they tell you, particularly in a fun atmosphere; even more so if their mates are also present. For that reason I’m naming no names here!

What I will say is I met this wonderful character at Ballinasloe Horse Fair as he ambled along with a goose tucked under his arm, as, of course, one does on such occasions! In truth he didn’t say too much. His mates did most of the talking, while he did most of the laughing. If they were telling me the truth he was from County Westmeath. If so then perhaps his favourite song might well be Joe Dolan’s The Westmeath Bachelor. See il.youtube.com/watch?v=lVwYwL-uE9M if you have lost my drift!

He was certainly up for having his picture taken, and much more besides too I expect, but, as they say, what happens in Ballinasloe stays in Ballinasloe!
