The Haunted House
This one taken while inside my car, across the street ;)
A lot of evidence has been found in this spot by local paranormal investigators such as the people involved with Legend Trips and Spooky Southcoast. They have all captured a wealth of EVPs and other evidence that has been featured on Spooky Southcoast's radio show as well as Tim Weisberg's book "Ghosts of the Southcoast".
Some of the house's history: "The house was constructed in 1732, it was used as a residence, a funeral home from 1890 to 1951, then a residence again.
According to legend, the British burned Samuel West's house in Dartmouth (now Acushnet) on Sept 1778 in retaliation for his efforts in deciphering Dr. Benjamin Church's letter for General George Washington in 1775. It's claimed that as the British were leaving, Samuel West's house was pointed out to them and they burned it.
In the 1858 book 'History of New Bedford' it lists the houses still standing as of 1846. Among the eleven houses burned on Sept 5-6 1778, Samuel West's was not among them. The Samuel West house was formerly known as the B. Rodman farmhouse.
Deed history : In 1748 the property belonged to John Crandon and was then inherited by Thomas Crandon and inn holder. In 1785 Samuel West recovered a judgment against Crandon and seized this land on execution.
In 1811 Samuel West Jr. sold the property to William Wood. The description in these deeds established the fact that Dr. West lived in this house, which he owned after 1785. "
