Tribute to Ernst Haas | 2023 [Explored]

Austrian-American photographer Ernst Haas (1921–1986) was a pioneer of color photography who is also known for his blurred motion imagery. On my most recent trip to New York City, I explored this technique in Midtown Manhattan. I tried to provide context by including the yellow medallion taxis while aiming for a maximum in dynamic movement. This is the best shot of a series of photos I took on that day in March. The image illustrates Wikipedia’s article “Intentional camera movement”.

I find it extremely satisfying to be aware of the history of photography when taking pictures. It helps me appreciate the art form better and learn from other photographers’ techniques and styles.
