Phot.India.Mumbai.Jaleebies.01.100505.0003.jpg

India, Mumbai, street food, freshly fried Jalebees, also served in most Indian Restaurants. This Indian indulgence is deep fried fermented wheat flour dough pressed into round ringlets crunchy fried in ghee, a clarified butter, then saturated in a sugary syrup with a hint of lime juice & some rosewater The syrup gives it the bright red-orange colour & the sweetness. Jalebees taste great warm & if you like it very sweet, don’t count the calories. The earliest written references to the sweet are found in a 13th-century cookbook.
