Upper Darby PCC

A Septa PCC car crosses the B&O's Royal Blue route at grade in Upper Darby PA. The date is Sunday August 18th 1974. Note the crossing mechanism in the background is actually a repurposed semaphore mechanism; this lasted until a few years ago (there's still one in Cumberland MD at Knox st). While this photo depicts a tranquille scene, that was not the case in December 2021 when my westbound trailer train struck a Septa streetcar that was fouling this very crossing. Luckily nobody died. Steve Zabel photo, JL Sessa collection.
